So I get back from Japan this morning, only to find the Fred08 site having finally posted something after a couple-three days of inactivity:

Fred D. Thompson has withdrawn his candidacy for the GOP nomination.

So away go the Fred widgets, as I mull over how exactly lukewarm my “support” will be for Mitt (my “number two” guy).

And folks, it gets even more ugly after the jump… (more…)

Time to face reality, I guess…

with Fred coming in at a very weak third place in the SC primary tonight, this does not bode well for the Thompson campaign in the Ol’ Deep South.

One thing I’ve noticed in recent days (especially in the build-up to the IA caucus) on Fred’s campaign site amongst my fellow FredHeads is this desire to try and convince Rush Limbaugh to endorse Fred.

While Rush has said a few kind words about Fred (and Mitt, and Rudy) and offering Huckabee the verbal equivalent of the door knob to the backside… Rush has basically said in no uncertain terms that he simply will NOT endorse a candidate until the nomination process is complete. And even that is no guarantee that he will endorse the GOP nominee (especially if said nominee is Mr. Huckabee).

Point taken - fellow FredHeads, please stop pestering Rush to endorse Fred. It ain’t gonna happen unless he proves himself by getting the nomination, and if he hasn’t listened to you by now (still no endorsement an hour into the IA caucus)… then pestering him further will make him less likely to endorse him when he gets the nomination.

So please, stop calling/emailing his show to beg for endorsements already.

But do call to put in a good and intelligent word for him where it is timely.

(Note: This post is meant for believing Christians, and is not otherwise intended to cast aspersion upon people of other faiths or who do not profess a faith. However, if it is appropriate for you, I ask you to please consider joining me in whatever capacity you deem fitting for the common hope of seeing Iowans turn out to caucus for Fred Thompson).

Greetings, brothers and sisters in Christ!

Today is a pivotal day, a day which will set in course the pattern by which many Americans will consider their choice as hundreds of thousands of Iowans go this afternoon to caucus.

Please join with me and other FredHeads in a day of prayer and fasting, so that:

(1) The Lord would move in the hearts of the people of Iowa who will caucus as Republicans to vote for Fred Thompson, the candidate who is proving himself to be the consistent conservative and clear choice for securing our borders, and for limiting the role and spending by the Federal government, and restoring American values to the forefront of our public discourse.

(2) That the Lord would keep the Iowa caucus-goers safe and warm as they travel to their local caucus, and that He would direct their steps and votes in accordance with His will.

The details of the fast are encapsulated below (as captured by Mr. Lynn from the Fred08 discussion) :

… Jennifer said she was going Fast & Pray for Senator Thompson.

You know Jennifer, you have a great idea.

May I suggest to those who would like to participate, that we start a period of ‘Fasting’. I would suggest starting the morning of Jan. 3rd and ending it about the time the caucus meetings are ending. I would assume they are finishing at different times.

Shall we all {Those that would like to help and feel comfortable in this] start a Fast at 9:00 a.m. [eastern time] with a short period of silence on the site? Individuals can take a moment to meditate, pray or just think about the people of Iowa, seeking for them, a good spirit and a clear mind in their decision process.

This is not, of course, for everyone [while we’d encourage all to participate]. If Fasting and Prayer are not part of your beliefs, fine. Please do not feel separated or excluded if you choose not to help in this way. We would love to have your feelings of caring and love, help us none-the-less.

Have I said this correctly? I do not wish to offend.

So if you’d like to, let’s start our period of Fasting, with a moment of silence on the site at 9:00 a.m. [Those in Calif and HI can start a bit later after you get up.]…OK those in California can start after noon {local time} as you get up…LOL.

Then let’s end the Fast with a moment of silence on the site at say 10:00 p.m. [Eastern Time]. Let’s keep this simple and respectful.

As Senator Thompson expressed in his video to Iowa, we will be hard pressed to succeed without the help of a higher ‘Providence’. Let’s seek His help.

Respectfully,

Grant H. Lynn, CSA

Brothers and sisters in Christ: Let’s keep lifting up Fred Thompson before the ultimate Throne of Grace, that Sovereign from whom all authority and glory issues, that He might increase Fred in favor and in the minds of the caucus-going Iowans today.

I would also especially request that you lift up the Iowa GOP voters who are caucusing today, that the Lord direct their hearts to examine Fred’s positions carefully, and to vote for him.

Blessing and grace and peace be with you all, in the name of our great God and Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
