Thoughts from beyond the grave of H.L. Mencken on Obama:
The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small electorates, a first-rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying even the mob with him by force of his personality. But when the field is nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second and third hand, and the force of personality cannot so readily make itself felt, then all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.
The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.
Update - 21 May 2009: I did some further reading up on this H.L. Mencken, and interestingly enough, he was something of a forerunner of today’s modern liberal secular-humanist elitist (and very likely a godless atheist) who had a bit of an affinity for the authoritarian model of Otto von Bismarck’s Prussia, or any of the other less than libertarian governments of Old Europe.
Not a bit at all unlike many of the far-left of the Democratic Party, whose somewhat ironic name betrays its true bent toward European style Democratic Socialism, where the central government and its many agencies have attempted - with much success - to supplant the Creator (His Name is Jesus) as the granter of rights and liberties, while very successfully relinquishing the electorate and the common citizen of his role as both guarantor and holder of those same liberties and rights.
… for the demise of Republican Party for the foreseeable future (assuming of course, that we do not learn our lessons from this crushing defeat both in the POTUS and most Congressional races, including the one in my own local district.
As for the dead mascot elephants, just consider it some dark humour on my part… though I would probably not have enjoyed being part of the clean team that hauled these beasts’ carcasses off to the great beyond.
Though we are moving into a Brave New World of Socialism (although I expect that the smarter heads among the Dems will opt for a policy of incrementalism that won’t shock the nation into a massive buyer’s regret by 2010…) I am glad for one thing:
That this seemingly multi-year campaign season is finally at an end, and we can get on with our lives, enjoying the final two-plus months of freedom. But fear not… elephants also have long memories, and we will be watching you Dems very closely.
…the Muzak, of course, to be a potential by-product of the restoration of the most far-left, welfare-statist Liberals to power.
Folks, we are looking at a solid Democratic lockdown of Washington DC. The ultra-liberal MSM once again enshrined as the Most Holy Arbiter of all TRVTH and Doctrine. And a whole great big nasty slime-crusted, graft-riddled raft of “populist” policy to drive our nation to, and very likely over, the brink of destruction.
With all that, I’m nearly convinced that Comrade Obama will easily sail right into the Presidency, provided he can keep his Gaffe-tastic running mate locked in a closet somewhere. Barring a sudden revelation that he’s gotten caught with three male hookers in a stolen sportscar with a dozen eight-balls of coke, there is simply nothing that can prevent him from sweeping the election in a moderate landslide.
All right, enough of my whining/polemic over the likely outcome of this atrocity of an election year. I’m predicting (unscientifically) that Obama will win (approx) 324-214 … that’s a margin of 190 votes. Not a crushing landslide, but not a squeaker either. I suspect that the popular vote will be much closer, but again, nothing like the Bush-Gore closeness that caused many liberals more than a few sleepless nights eight years ago.
I wonder how wrong - as Ohio is still very close, and may be in fact quite crucial, depending upon how that voter fraud thing with ACORN eventually works itself out.
The BEST case scenario I can think of would be close to a squeaker, and gives MO, NC, OH, and FL - all of which are still tightly contested in the polls - and most generously gives VA which seems to have been taken over by elite liberals who have carpetbagged moved on in from NY or MA… Or wealthy DC liberals who commute to from northern VA:
At this point, I’d say that the best thing that the GOP could do would be to financially cut McCain loose, and channel all remaining funds to defending GOP Senate races in jeopardy of being lost to the Blue Majority, if not aggressively funding strong contenders in any toss-up Senate seats.
If the GOP wants to put their best effort into preventing a bulletproof, filibuster-proof Senate, which would serve as a rubber-stamp body to whatever porky-garbage the House serves up… they must sacrifice McCain.
With a few notable exceptions, the House is all but a lost cause. The “Rescue/Bailout Bill” debacle has likely cost any (R) congressman who voted against the first bill, but flip-flopped on the second one (which piled on an additional $150B worth of pork and other perks to an unbelievable, outrageous theft of $700B from the taxpayers.
What effect that will have on (D) congressmen is harder to discern, but I don’t think that it will make a difference given the polls indicating an easy 280+ seat House majority, and potentially as many as 70-80 additional seats (as constituents punish R-incumbents who flipped on their votes on the Bailout) adding to that easy majority, up to a 350-360 seat majority.
Here is yet another conservative that is among the growing number of conservatives flipping for Obama.
I just don’t get this:
I sure hope Obama is more open, centrist, sensible—dare I say, Clintonesque—than his liberal record indicates, than his cooperation with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid portends. If not, I will be even more startled by my vote than I am now.
Not long after Colin Powell endorsed Obama (kind of expected, given that more often than not… skin colour in America, especially among African-Americans, is much more thicker than nearly any other thing in our lives) we have Ken Adelman, a long time conservative Republican who has served since the Nixon admistration.
I could certainly understand voting third party, such as the Constitution Party’sChuck Baldwin, an outstanding paleo-conservative candidate, who was also endorsed by the Hon. Dr. Ron Paul. Or even Bob Barr, the Libertarian. Either would be acceptable alternatives to the Rule of the NeoCons™, and certain to be more palatable choices to a conservative than the socialists like the “Axis of Taxes” promise to be (Obama-Reid-Pelosi).
But to choose a man who will lead us, along with both houses of Congress packed with a hyper-partisan, bulletproof supermajorities chomping at the bit to enact the largest raft of the most liberal, socialist, social-engineering experimentation legislation ever unloaded upon the republic…
…it is nothing but sheer madness. Even if the VP pick wasn’t suitable, in his words, for “even a mid-level post in the arms-control agency”.
About a year and a half ago, in late February of 2007, Senator Obama was interviewed by columnist Nicholas D. Kristof of the New York Times. In this interview, Obama made a rather startling confession that rocked much of the right-wing blogosphere, which naturally lead to deeper digging into Obama’s “supposed” Islamist roots.
While his statement were never debunked as the “myth” of Obama’s “madrassah” in Jakarta, unfortunately, this still does not line up with The Official™ Narrative issued by the Department of Information Assurance™… which states emphatically that Obama is a Christian:
… recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”
Note, that Mr. Kristof calls this the “Arabic Call to Prayer”, which is what most people will think of: the muzzein, or the little guy up in the tower (or some fellow using a loudspeaker mounted in a tall spire) five times a day in Muslim neighbourhoods.
If in fact, Obama’s twenty years at a race-baiting, black majority church (Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, IL) pastored by the now particularly infamous, radical left wing black-liberation theologian, the very Left Reverend Jeremiah Wright … if this can be characterized as being anywhere near the mainstream of Christianity (much less evangelical or Fundamentalist Christianity)… then he simply *must* be a Christian, right?
But the Master warned us:
“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:15-16a, KJV)
Much has been said about Obama’s religious heritage: born of a “Christian” mother turned to atheism/socialist agnosticism and a father who was born a Muslim turned and committed to outright African communism… and exposed to Islam as a young boy when he lived with his Muslim stepfather in Jakarta, and ultimately lost in a world of secularism and hedonism in the 1970s as a student at various elite leftist universities… finally coming to a rest at the Left Rev. Wright’s church.
Although in the great majority of Islamic cultures, a son born to a Muslim father is automatically considered a Muslim, with the expectation that the father will raise up the son according to the teachings of Islam. However, the true litmus test for any Muslim, (or true, Bible-believing Christians, for that matter - one of the very few things Islam and Christianity share in common) is the profession of faith.
For a Christian, it is as simple as confessing the Lord Jesus Christ as one’s Lord and Saviour:
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
(Romans 10:8-12, KJV)
Of course, this confession is also made by faith, and by the testimony and the sealing of the believer by the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 John 5:7-8, 12, 20; KJV)
In deceptively like manner, Islam sets no great bar upon those wishing to identify themselves to the Ummah as fellow believers, requiring only that they say a prayer/affirmation known as the Shahadah.
Now listen very carefully to the audio of the following YouTube video - particularly between the time marker from 0:28 to 1:01, and compare it to this transcription of the Shahadah prayer:
Or this one - with subtitles (about the first 30sec of the video:
It transliterates (according to Wikipedia - the usual standard disclaimers apply) as: “There is no god but [Allah], Muhammad is the Messenger of [Allah]”
“Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that Muhammad is his prophet… “
As I said, the recitation of this prayer is very much a proof to any Muslims hearing it, that the reciter thereof is identifying himself as a fellow traveller - a citizen in the Islamic Ummah.
Can there be doubt then Senator Obama is a self-professed Muslim…?
More tweaking of old WW2-style posters. This one should be less obviously ripped off of the “This is the Enemy…” series, but the inspiration is there all the same.
Feel free to use this where-ever… e-mails, your blogs, Myspace, etc.
Since you’ve disabled comments for this particular blog post, I’m going to post here with a trackback on the off chance you’ll actually care to read my reply.
As a supporter of Ron Paul’s ideas of liberty and adherence to the Constitution as the final law of the land… I’d like to say that most of us aren’t too concerned with who is or isn’t a Jew.
Sadly, there are a few nutjobs in any political movement who do it great disservice by not setting a guard over the trapdoor that is their mouth: whether it be the handful of anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists or some crazed idiots at McCain rallies calling Obama an “Arab” and a terrorist, or worse, putting themselves in dire legal jeopardy by making threats against his person.
To be accurate, Obama is a non-dual-citizen half-Kenyan, and he is _friends_ with domestic terrorists.
I am friends with people who have garages, but that doesn’t make me a car… although I might have parked my car in their garage at some point in time. And I’ll be the first to admit that the antics of some of my fellow “Ronulans” really put me off of Dr. Paul during the first two thirds of the primaries — though I came to appreciate his message of non-interventionism far too late in the game.
We “Paul-Bots” are concerned with the creeping socialism on the so-called right, and the rocketsled-pace flight to socialism on the left. We are concerned about horrendous levels of government interventionism foreign and domestic, and the seemingly deliberate destruction of our republic via poor economic policies.
As for Ms. Palin, she seems like a very sincere, thoughtful woman - and I think she makes an excellent state governor. Unfortunately, she was woefully under prepared to be on the national stage, and makes little sense to pick a running mate from an arguably strong red state as opposed to someone like Tom Ridge from a key battleground state
I strongly detest the Mr. Ridge’s politics vis-a-vis his pro-choice stand, and his selection as VP would have been a bit of a deal-breaker for me even if I wasn’t already set against McCain for being such a liberal … I’m just sayin’, ya’ know?
Someone on FreeRepublic.com posted this modified WW2 poster extolling Hitler (with Obama’s face on it)… so I decided to have some fun with it by further modifying it…
I’ve always been a fan of the style of poster art that characterised the Second World War.
Most if not all of this artwork was very much propagandist by design — anything from the classic “Loose Lips Sink Ships”, or the “Keep’em coming, We’ll keep on shooting”, and appeals to buy war bonds… as well as the scarier ones like “This is the Enemy”, showing the Nazis or the Imperial Japanese in all their (pointedly) savage glory.
With this in mind, I’ve taken liberties with one such poster, and commandeered it to the purpose of keeping Barack Hussein Obama from winning this election.
On that note, to my deep chagrin, Dr. Chuck Baldwin will not be on the ballot here in New York State, and with a very scant ground game here (there are actually two Constitution Party organizations here) and for reasons well beyond the scope of this post, they tend to work against each other.
I’m not particularly impressed with Bob Barr, even though he will be on the ballot, so barring some sort of miracle that gets Dr. Baldwin’s name on the ballot or even available as an authorized write in candidate, I’ll be voting McCain.
Not because I like McCain: I deeply, deeply dislike him and most of what he stands for.
But I detest Obama very, very much more than I dislike McCain.
Oh, and here are the posters: please enjoy.
(A perhaps tired meme, but still worth it to get under the liberals’ skin: Obama the Muslim).
Obama’s general dislike for gun-owners and Christians (I need to do one up on him grabbing guns sometime…)
And I have to wonder why the media seems to completely ignore Obama’s ties to Bill Ayers…?
